How the Buddhist Religion Evolved

Buddhism is a religion based on the teachings of Buddha which are referred to as "Dharma" or "the Dharma."  Buddhist believe they are on a spiritual journey to attain a state of complete enlightenment known as Nirvana.    Like all religions, Buddhism has evolved over time, fractured and adapted as the religion spread to the continent of Asia and around the globe.  Today, there are three major sects of Buddhism and several lesser-known denominations of the religion.

Despite their differences, these variations of the Buddhist religion still share core principles. In each, the Buddha is considered the spiritual leader.  The Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path are core principles and philosophies of the faith.  All believe that Buddhahood is the highest possible state that can be achieved.

The Theravada or "doctrine of the Elders" was established around 300 BC..  This religion centered around the teachings of Buddha and encouraged the sangha (followers) to use meditation as a means to teach the mind and eliminate suffering with the ultimate goal of reaching Nirvana.  Theravada Buddhism gave life to the Tripitaka, the Pali canon of Buddhist scriptures and the Ten Precepts which govern the lifestyle of Buddhist monks.

This discipline of Buddhism began in India and migrated to southeast Asia into Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam and other Asian countries.  As this form of Buddhism was embraced by the indigenous people, the Theravada was altered to incorporate the religious viewpoints of the various geographic regions. It is still practiced in Sri Lanka, Laos and Cambodia today.

Mahayana, or Eastern Buddhism, expands the Pali Canon and includes other religious philosophies and texts that encourage altruism and the need to live a life of universal compassion.  These beliefs are central to their concept of an "Awakened mind."  Mahayana Buddhism is most popular in Korea, Japan and China. It incorporates elements of mysticism and cosmology.  Mahayana Buddhism itself has splintered into two variants.  The version of Buddhism that puts emphasis on internalization of the spiritual path and self-reliance is called Zen Buddhism. The other form which emphasizes the need for dedication to the Amitabha Buddha in order to reach Nirvana is called Pure Land Buddhism.

Although deeply influenced by Mahayana Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism or Vajrayana is another distinct discipline of the Buddhist faith..  Also known as "tantric Buddhism," Vajrayana incorporates text and scriptures from both Mahayana and Theraveda Buddhism along with Buddhist Tantras.  A major difference of Vajrayana Buddhism is that it teaches that Buddhahood can be achieved in a single life time without need for reincarnation.

the Path to Enlightenment and Buddhahood is the most significant difference between the various Buddhist disciplines.  While all believe in the core principles of meditation and spiritual questing guided by the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, the attainment of Nirvana varies considerably.

Secrets of Longevity-Pillars of Life

The Secrets of Longevity have been a quest by many people for aeons of time. There are pockets of the world's population where people live much longer than the longevity nations (China, Japan, Korea) such as the Hunzas in the Himalayas, the Vilcambas in the Andes, the Abkhasians and Georgians on the Black Sea, the East Indian Todas and the Yucatan Indians. Researchers tracking cultures living the longest have found that its not unusual for these peoples to live a life of quality. Work and play beyond 80 years and beyond is typical. A majority, attain 100 years remaining active and honored by all they live with. Here are the longevity habits of these people.

THE 7 PILLARS TO A LONGER, HEALTHIER LIFE

  1. SLEEP

Sleep more, age less...Sleep is not an optional activity. Without sleep, your immunity breaks down just as you would without water and food.

Any book dedicated to the topic of aging will cite the necessity for enough sleep, which is 7-9 hours.

There is a strong relationship between deep sleep and the release of Growth Hormone. It is during sleep that adults secrete the greatest amount of HGH.

Sleep disturbances usually stem from 1) deficient adrenals and kidneys (need energy to sleep), 2) high blood pressure spike at 3AM, 3) damp-obstruction in the throat (blocks airways) snoring, semi-wakefulness , 4) excess heat rising from the liver which causes alert status, head heat and headache and 5) excess urination which wakes the person thus not allowing deep REM sleep

2. STRESS REDUCTION

You cannot deny the health benefits of stress reduction.

Good stress management slows aging and prevent disease.

Dr. Paul E. Lemanski (Albany Medical College( writes, 'Stress causes the release of 'fight or flight' hormones which increase blood flow to our large muscles, increase our heart rate, respirations and blood pressure, and decreases blood flow to the gastrointestinal tract including the saliva glands.

Sleep disturbances usually stem from 1) high blood pressure spiking at 3AM,  2) Deficient adrenals and kidneys (need energy to sleep), 3)

3. EXERCISE

In 'Successful Aging' (1998) a study on aging in America, which had begin in 1987, showed that almost all healthy seniors had been physically active throughout their life.

Dr. Andrew Weil, a well-known proponent of alternative or complementary medicine and the author of, 'Healthy Aging', supports the idea that up until modern times, humans have almost always been physically active, simply by surviving off the land. Today we work off computers. Bottom line is that we need some form of daily exercise. Yes, walking counts, if done briskly.

4. NUTRITION

We all know the importance of good nutrition and a balanced diet. But which diet? The best history of longevity is held by the Hunzakuts of the Pakastani Himalayas. Here the longevity people exceed a century of living. They practice these health pillars, exceptionally, and more. They eat 3/5 the calories as those in industrialized society, drink 40 cups of water with chunks of Himalyan mineral salt daily, work 12 hours a day then play, take long 20 mile treks or hike up the mountin side, meditate many times in the day, etc.  Their diet consists of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains and a little goat or Yak meat every couple of weeks, drink home made "Pani" wine (weak) and goat milk. Their great secret is that they don't waste their waste. They put all animal and human elimination and garbage back into the soil as compared to industrial society where all all elimination goes down the drain to public works depts. and dumped in sanitation pits. Our soil is nutritionally weak while their soil, without the support of nutrients and pesticide, can fend off all microbes and insects.

5. WATER

Like that of nutrition, lots can be said and studies can be cited all day long as to which type of water is best for us. One thing is for sure however. Drinking enough water on a daily basis is essential for proper elimination and detoxification. I have found that water in plastic containers is very acidic which results in an inflammatory state. Water from the city (Houston) is in healthy ranges but you can smell the excess chlorine. I suggest putting a filter on the tap and shower head. Less acid and chlorine.

6. SUPPLEMENTATION

With all the nutritional research, it is difficult to win an argument negating the benefits of supplementation given the deficiencies of our farming soil. However, if one were to source natural crop supplementation, they would be better off. This is hard to come by because it takes extra knowledge to provide for yourself and you need to take the time to grow your crop. But, if you are are desiring longevity then I would begin the search for an urban community garden or acquire land to produce yourself.

Our top researchers, scientists and medicial professionals know connection between food-nutrient deficiencies and the diseases which plague the human body.

Over the last century, our soil has become nutritionally deficient, making it necessary to supplement founded on easily absorbable plant nutrients. Longevity herbal is a beneficial natural source of highly mineralized, vitaminized food. Besides the health engendering alkalods contained there are dense nutrients which provides the human body the potential for correction. The key is the knowledge of the practitioner and chooser of the herbs essential for balance to be achieved.

7. POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE

In the work called "The Secret" and many studies before, a positive belief in oneself, one's vision, having supportive people to hold you to the task and believing in you, recognizing when you are off-course and positively course correcting will greatly minimize stress, affect others to be positive and reflect back positivity.

There are, of course, other pillars to support a long and healthy life, but these are what we consider the most fundamental. More in-depth information can be found at "Secrets of Longevity

Yin and Yang

Practice Yoga with Wai Lana to Get Fit

Yin-yang

The Chinese believe our bodies are complete halves, one side being the passive and the other being the aggressive, and it only thru the successful union of the halves, that we have got the healthy whole.

Western medicine

Western drugs has so far, not subscribed to this theory, in entire. There's forcing evidence to support plenty of the Chinese theories on the joining of the body's energy forces and balancing our flow of energy through the entire body.

Chiropractors, and acupuncture and yoga

Chiropractic and acupuncture philosophies base their complete practice on the successful relationship of the body's energy flow, nervous system impulses, and skeletal alignment. Wailana yoga is another practice which corrects skeletal alignment.

Harmony What we do know, about individuals is the complete system must be in balance for achievement of true wellness and health. Our physical, mental, and spiritual existence must be aligned and working as a whole. To better understand this principle, we need to take another look at some of the traditional healing methods and philosophies. Perhaps then we will develop a better knowledge of how our body works with itself to fix. Wai Lana Yoga Products help you attain the balance you need.

East meets west

In the custom of acupuncture, the crucial energy flow occurs along pathways known as meridians. These meridians connect over two thousand acupuncture points along the body. There are twelve main meridians, and eight secondary meridians. Though standard western drugs doesn't completely understand how acupuncture works, the explanation that it does work has been shown in several studies conducted by western medical facilities. the very nature of chiropractic care is the belief in the body's own healing properties. Quite regularly we may have small Problems in one area of our body, and not even realize it until the effect is felt in a much bigger way, some other place.

Your health and chiropractors

The practice of chiropractic care is focused on the relationship between your spine and your nervous system. The backbone is the structure, and the nervous system is the function. Chiropractic believes that two systems work in unison to keep and then restore your body's health. The word 'chiropractic' is taken from Greek, and means 'done by hand'.

Basic healing

If you are aware of the basic premise from each form of healing, and apply it to the realization that we have about the interaction of the mind, body, and spirit, you can see that these ancient healing philosophies are very accurate in their belief about treatment and how the body works. They were able to discern this hundreds of years before science could basically provide the evidence.

Utilize yin and yang

The dazzling part thing to me is that with all of this knowledge, and all of the opportunity for self-help and healing that we have available, we continue to have people who suffer simply because they are not prepared to put forth the effort to learn and take part. We have each possible venue for healing options available, for the low-income, for the middle-income, and for the wealthy. There's no bias when it comes to availability. We just need to learn how to take advantage of the yin and yang. Part of the halves is in effect now we just need the participators. .

Checking out Power Yoga DVD's For Your General Fitness and Well Being

Power yoga poses can be learned from power yoga DVD's, although the best situation for learning power yoga is in a class with other students and a live instructor.  The reason that the power yoga class is a better choice if it is available is that the instructor can watch the poses that the  student is doing and make corrections so that the technique is right and there is less of a chance of injury.

What Skill Will You Learn?

You will be taught the basic skill in yoga with a power yoga DVD.  You will need both a mat and comfortable clothing to participate in either a class or along with a power yoga DVD.  The yoga mat is important because it allows the individuals to participate without the hands and feet slipping when they get sweaty during the workout.  The yoga mat also allows individuals to participate in the power yoga DVD's without feeling the pain in their buttocks or other areas when performing certain poses since there is some padding in the yoga mats to help with it.

The clothing needs to be comfortable but also should not slip up or down during the various poses.  Individuals should not have to re-adjust the clothing in the middle of poses, so comfortable pants or tights and a comfortable tank or snug t-shirt are usually the best choices.

The power yoga DVD's will teach how to do the basic asanas or poses in yoga.  It will also usually teach how to do various modifications of these poses so that if there are back problems, knee issues or flexibility problems, the poses can still be held even with these issues.  The power yoga DVD has the advantage over classes as you can perform the poses in the comfort of your own home and at a time that suits you best.

Traditional Hatha Yoga Postures

Traditional Hatha Yoga Postures

Hatha yoga videos can be a good starting place for those who want to learn Hatha yoga postures.  The choice in video has to be made carefully, however, making sure that the instructor on the video has the qualifications to teach this type of yoga to students.

What to Expect With a Hatha Yoga DVD

Comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in is important when performing Hatha yoga postures and poses.  if the clothing it loose it may get in the way while you are performing postures, it may become uncomfortable and start sliding around.  Usually pairs of tights or sweatpants are ideal along with a snug fitting tank top.  Shorts are also allowed in classes.

Beginners in Hatha yoga postures can bring their own mat or can usually borrow a mat from the gym where they will be participating.  Although the mats at the gym are fine, they are not always the most sterile, and when there are bare feet, sweating and faces to the mat in some cases, this is not a fine proposition that many people want to do where other people have done it there beforehand.  You can purchase a Hatha yoga mat for around fifteen dollars from a variety of different stores. The mats are a vital part as not only do they give padding to your buttocks and stomach region when performing the poses, they also stop your hands and feet from slipping, allowing your to hold your poses without adjustment.

If you like the convenience of being able to perform the Hatha Yoga poses at any time you like and in the comfort of your own home you may want to start with a yoga DVD or video.

Meditaion And Mind Healing

When we practice meditation that brings our attention to our bodies, we may become aware of many aches and pains in our bodies that we hadn’t noticed before.  These could be very subtle or they could be very noticeable.  A pain or discomfort in a particular area of the body we may be inclined to try to get away from it or change it somehow, which is a natural reaction.  If the pain isn’t a result of some specific physical problem, like in the knees for example, then this may be a chance to really deal with the potential for release and healing. Let this be your beginners guide to meditation.

The symptoms of pain and tension could be showing us a place where the body has been holding onto some incomplete issue that was not resolved in our past and is left in the subconscious, waiting to be healed.  The body is the repository of the subconscious, where the unresolved or unhealed “past” is stored, or held.  In this way the body holds our past unresolved issues.  Meditation, therefore, holds the possibility of giving us a chance to become aware of pain, stay with it and use it to find resolution in the release of it.

When we are able to release, we start to gain insight into what we might have been holding and how it has appeared in our lives.  If we have an ongoing pain in our right shoulder, we may find through meditation the source of this was based in a childhood experience with our father.  We are given a way to gain insight into ourselves through this childhood reflection from the father.  The real issue is not based on what the father did, really.  Rather, it is a reflection of something that existed within ourselves.

We may draw some understanding from this insight about a childhood experience about a pattern that has persisted in our relationships with men.  We may notice a way of relating, or not relating to men.  In the end we will understand this as a distortion of our masculine polarity.  We will see, through examining the source of problems in the past in our lives, that the issues relating to masculinity were influenced by imprinting from the father, and to the feminine, by imprinting from the mother.  They are the basis for the reflection and imprinting that occurs in our lives, and following the laws of sympathetic attraction will pull us to the parent that will enable us to work out the karma we’re meant to focus on in our lives.

The case is the same for emotional pain.  If we really allow ourselves to experience our emotions in our bodies, to be present to ourselves and honor what is happening, we will be able to notice what develops during this process. This includes coping with anxiety and depression.

We aren’t able to sit and meditate whenever we experience uncomfortable emotions or feelings.  The practice of regular meditation can give us the ability to be in the moment of each experience in our lives as it happens, and this can give us great personal power. You can also look to learn yoga for stress relief.
